” For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourself is a gift from God, Not by works lest any man boast”
I feel sad for those who think they’ll get to heaven because of their works or their outward appearance. They’ll be in for a shock on judgment day. The obvious difference between a Muslim and a True Christian is this:
The Muslims believe their works will get them to heaven, that’s why they pray five times a day, alcohol is forbidden, a man is not allowed to shake a woman’s hand, a woman must cover her hair or she’ll end up in hell, and so on. You see, the Muslims believe their works will save them from hell and get them to heaven.
Not so with a True born again Christian though, the bible says that all our righteousness is as “filthy rags”, an unregenerate heart is absolutely incapable of producing anything good. It’s just like a man in an ocean of mud, trying to clean up the whole ocean himself, all his lifetime he won’t be able to do that, neither can the government, nor the entire human race. It’s God alone Who can clean out that ocean of mud and then free the one who’s trapped in it. It will therefore be impossible for anyone to work himself out of his sins, or work himself to heaven without the help of God. And that’s what God has done for us by sending His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to pay the ultimate price of sins and redeem us (John 3:16).
There are at least four categories of Christians out there, such as:
- The Pharisaical Christians: Like the Pharisees, this kind of “Christians” believe their works have justified them before God, they’re the “Holier than thou” type of Christians, who espouse the doctrine of works and outward holiness. They are the ones who always neglect the inner filth (such as; greed, covetousness, pride, boastfulness, lust, anger etc), and cleave to outward holiness, believing they’re justified by works. Our Lord Jesus called them “Whitewashed tomb” which looks beautiful on the outside, but on the inside is full of dead men bones, and full of all sorts of uncleanness (Matthew 23:27). These are the Christians who believe and teach that for one to make it to heaven he/she must abstain from wearing jewelries, trousers are forbidden, make up takes you to hell, and they quote Deut 22:5, but they also forget that there’s over 600 laws in the Old Testament, and anyone who breaks one of them, breaks them all. These religious sect are heavily reliant upon other peoples “visions” of heaven and hell, anyone can wake up these days and claim to have had a vision of heaven and hell, and the sad thing is their testimony will not get scrutinised as well as it ought to. My prayer is that the Lord will deliver us from the deception that’s so great in the church these days.
- The false converts: These kinds of Christians are the ones who abuse the grace, they only became Christians because of the benefits of it, not because they were genuinely sorry for their sins, or remorseful at all. They either got born again due to fear of hell, or due to greed (because they were promised rich and fulfilling lives by false teachers). Such Christians won’t last long. And they’re an easy prey for the enemy. Some of these Christians are usually the ones who end up saying they saw visions of heaven and hell, because they got born again due to fear, but not as a result of love, the enemy will also exploit their fears and show them false visions of hell, giving them unbiblical doctrines, and as a result putting people in more bondage day by day.
- The lukewarm Christians: Like the five foolish virgins (Matthew 25) these Christians are not taking their Christianity as seriously as they ought to. They don’t see anything wrong with worldliness. They live their lives like everyone else Monday to Saturday, but on Sunday they’re usually the first in the church. The Lord Jesus says clearly in Revelation 3:15 that He’d rather we be either cold or hot, but not lukewarm.
- The true Spirit filled Christians: These are Christians who understand the importance of the blood of Jesus Christ, they understand how costly the price Christ paid for us is, they’re very appreciative of God’s kindness, Love and compassion. True Christians will never compromise with worldliness, and lukewarmness will not even come into their mind. They are the ones who will always make their election sure (2 Peter 1:10), they’re like the wise virgins in Matthew 25 and will not allow any kind of silliness to jeopardize their chances of getting into heaven. True Christians are Christians who understand that the flesh is weak and as such must live a Spirit filled lives day by day. They understand that they CANNOT live a holy life without the Holy Spirit.
When the Lord Jesus Christ was asked what one must do to have eternal life (The greatest commandment) He said “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind… And you shall love your neighbour as yourself”. What God is after is our hearts, to cleanse us from the inside, the problem is with the heart, because “the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. In Matthew 15:19 Our Lord Jesus says that “out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man.”
In 1Corinthians 6:9-11, apostle Paul says “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God, do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God”.
Also Galatians 5:19-22 says “ Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries and the like, of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practise such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” Revelation 21:8 also says “ But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death”
The interesting thing about the above passages is; none of them actually says anything about outward appearance, none of them says that your jewelries or trousers will get you to hell. It makes me now wonder, where then did this gospel of outward appearance come from?
Having said that, I am not in any way trying to discourage those who are emphasising the need to be holy on the outside, it is absolutely necessary for Christians to dress modestly and to not be adorned with pearls or costly clothing, as they might be perceived as showing off or engaging in an unnecessary competition, which ought not be an issue amongst Christians.
I might as well add that anyone who’s been convicted by the Holy Spirit about giving up anything that’s an idol in their lives, should give it up immediately without any hesitations at all. As it is the Lord who has the final say, and it is Him alone that we must seek to please. We should strictly obey the true commandments of our Father in Heaven, and not be tossed to and fro by the lies of the devil.
Galatians 5:1 says “ Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage”. DO NOT ALLOW anybody to deceive you, there are numerous false doctrines flying all over the internet these days, and the main aim is to deceive Christians, to put people in further bondage, people who our Lord Jesus Christ delivered from bondage are now heeding the voice of the enemy and as a result putting themselves into the same bondage that our Lord has delivered them from. I pray that The Lord will expose the lies of the devil in the church and put the enemy to shame in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
